An Podiatrist specializes in treating all kind of health problems of the feet. They look to the feet for for overall health too. Poor foot health can indicate other health problems within the body and the physician can use diagnostic tools to help the patient get the treatment that they need.
A Podiatrist can also look at the foot for biomechanical foot alignment problems. Individuals that suffer from plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, bunions, calluses, etc. are primarily due to poor alignment of the feet. A Podiatrist can look at these issues through observing how a person walks or stands. They can then treat with custom foot orthotics if the think it will be beneficial.
